How a bespoke GIPO P131 GIGA configuration is helping one of Ireland's leading waste management companies recover more value from contaminated builders' skip waste.
Builders' skip waste is one of the most challenging construction and demolition (C&D) waste streams to process efficiently. No two loads are the same, and incoming material often contains a constantly changing mix of concrete and brick, along with high levels of timber, plastics, metals and other contaminants.
For recycling businesses, the challenge goes beyond simply processing material at volume. The real objective is to maximise value recovery from every tonne received while producing clean, consistent recycled aggregates that can be reused across a range of applications.
For Skips R Us, one of Ireland's leading waste management companies, addressing this challenge was a key consideration when investing in new processing equipment.

The Challenge of Processing Contaminated Builders' Skip Waste
Across the recycling sector, feed material variability remains one of the biggest operational challenges. Material arriving on site can differ significantly from load to load, with contamination levels varying throughout the day.
This unpredictability can place increased demands on equipment and require additional manpower. Operators need solutions capable of handling heavily contaminated material while maintaining product quality, reducing unnecessary handling and maximising the recovery of valuable resources.
The challenge is not simply removing waste. It is ensuring reusable materials can be recovered efficiently and transformed into high-quality recycled products.
Crushing, screening and separation technologies all play a vital role in achieving this. When equipment is configured correctly, operators can recover more value from incoming waste streams, improve product consistency and maximise the value recovered from processed material.
A Tailored Solution for Skips R Us
As one of Ireland's leading waste management companies, Skips R Us required a solution capable of handling heavily contaminated and highly variable feed material while recovering as much value as possible from every load.
Rather than settling for a standard machine specification or installing an elaborate low-tonnage fixed plant, the objective was to identify a solution tailored to the specific operational requirements of the business now and into the future. This is where design flexibility became particularly important.

Working closely with Skips R Us, AGGPRO supplied a highly customised GIPO P131 GIGA impact crusher, designed around the company's specific material processing requirements. Through GIPOFLEX, the machine was tailored to suit the operation's waste streams, contamination challenges and desired end products, helping extract more usable material throughout the recycling process.
For Skips R Us, this resulted in a solution engineered to maximise value recovery from mixed C&D waste streams while helping remove contamination throughout the recycling process.
"The challenge isn't simply processing builders' skip waste, it's recovering maximum value from it. The customised GIPO P131 GIGA gives us the flexibility to handle variable material while producing cleaner, more consistent end products." – Vivian Devlin, CEO, Skips R Us
Integrated Crushing, Screening and Separation
At the heart of the solution is the GIPO P131 GIGA's integrated crushing, screening and separation process.
Material first passes from the hopper over an extended two-deck pre-screen. This provides the option to remove a fines fraction via a side conveyor, while a mid-sized fraction can bypass the crushing chamber and travel towards the post-screen. This improves processing efficiency by reducing the volume entering the crushing chamber and helps prevent the unnecessary fragmentation of lighter waste.
The larger fraction enters the robust crushing chamber, where it is reduced to the desired size using a heavy-duty spinning rotor and adjustable impact aprons. This process also separates steel from concrete, brick and asphalt, enabling easier and cleaner removal at the next stage. The crusher is configured to reduce the size of the hardcore without being too aggressive on larger pieces of lighter waste, making them easier to remove downstream.
The machine's seven-tonne twin-pole inline magnet removes ferrous metals ahead of the final screening stage, discharging them via a left- or right-hand stainless-steel chute into a collection bin.
The attached three-deck, 6 ft x 19 ft post-screen is fitted with two internal air knives within the screen box and a third external air knife on the recirculating oversize system to remove bulky lighter waste. This arrangement produces three clean aggregate products. The extracted light-waste fractions are carried by conveyor to a collection bin.
This closed-loop system can produce one, two or three clean recycled aggregate products, clean ferrous metal and a light-waste fraction without manual picking.
By combining multiple processing stages within a single machine, the customised GIPO P131 GIGA supplied to Skips R Us provides an efficient mobile solution for processing complex C&D waste streams while supporting cleaner, more consistent recycled aggregate production.
Turning a Recycling Challenge into an Opportunity
As contamination levels and feed material variability continue to challenge recycling operators, the ability to recover maximum value from incoming waste streams is becoming increasingly important.
For Skips R Us, investing in a bespoke GIPO P131 GIGA supplied by AGGPRO provided a solution designed around the realities of processing mixed and contaminated construction and demolition waste. Rather than focusing solely on throughput, the system was configured to support improved material recovery through an integrated approach to crushing, screening and separation.
The project also demonstrates the value of GIPOFLEX, allowing machine specifications to be developed around the unique requirements of each operation. By tailoring equipment to the material being processed, recycling businesses can improve efficiency, enhance product quality and recover greater value from every tonne received.
For operators facing increasingly complex waste streams, the right equipment configuration can play a critical role in transforming a recycling challenge into a commercial opportunity.
