Wordsworth Crushing, based in South Yorkshire, are contract crushing and crusher hire specialists with coverage spanning from Scotland to the South East.
They focus primarily on the production of all quarried and recycled aggregates and their client list extends to some of the most prestigious firms within these industries.
We went to Halcombe Quarry in Somerset to catch up with Oliver Wordsworth and get his take on some of the recent additions to his vast fleet of crushing and screening equipment.
“The GIPO R130 FDR GIGA oozes class, as do all the GIPOs if I’m honest.
“The direct drive and rotor rate mean the throughput and productivity you get out of these is unbelievable. It sounds like a cliché but once you’ve gone GIPO, it’s hard to go back.”
Focusing on the fuel efficiency of the machine, Oliver said: “Some people talk about the litres per hour on a GIPO being high but with production rates that far exceed that of competitors, I struggle to see how this is relevant.
GIPO represents a fuel saving that is particularly significant in today’s climate
“The bottom line is that a GIPO operates at a lower litres per tonne, which is all that matters. It represents a fuel saving that is particularly significant in today’s climate.”

Oliver continued to talk about some of the other factors that contribute to the GIPO offering a lower cost of production.
“There are so many small details that add up, for example if wear liners on other machines come in at half an inch, on a GIPO they’ll be an inch.
“GIPOs use an under-pan feeder that means you don’t need to put conveyors or skirts on. The system channels the materials via a belt that gets wider as the material passes through the crusher, reducing strike points and wear points. I could go on but I’d be here all day.
A simpler operation that minimises any down time
“The build quality means you just don’t need to maintain these machines like you do others, which ultimately makes for a simpler operation that minimises any down time.
“To summarise, in a more complicated world, GIPO keep it simple.”

Wordsworth’s fleet of McCloskeys has also increased of late with the addition of two S190s in June 2022.
“I don’t think anybody runs as many McCloskey’s in the UK as we do. We have 25 McCloskey screeners in total across our different sites, these include S190s, R105s, R155s and R230s. Add to these three jaw crushers and four stackers and I think it’s safe to assume we like a McCloskey.
“They are fantastic pieces of kit and are critical to driving efficiencies in our operations.”
Safety is paramount at Wordsworth Crushing
Wordsworth’s dedication to health and safety was recognised on 20th April 2022, in Amsterdam, when Oliver Wordsworth was awarded the prestigious ‘European Health and Safety Contractor of the Year’ award for 2021.
This accolade is a reflection of the effort and commitment Wordsworth Crushing operate with as a whole, from the management teams to the operational teams and office staff.
The company have become synonymous with their ‘Think Safe, Be Safe’ slogan that is engrained into anything and everything they do, to ensure the highest standards of health & safety.
We then moved on to talk about how the Agg Pro relationship had developed over the years.
“First and foremost, back in 2010 Agg Pro were the only ones willing to take a chance on us. We’ve come a long way since then and both grew significantly as companies but I will never forget the trust Agg Pro showed us.
“In terms of our relationship now, I genuinely can’t think of a company that is as easy to work with, as understanding and can react as fast as Agg Pro. You guys work around our business and adapt as we develop. I can’t fault it.
Whatever we throw at you, it’s always ‘Yes’, that’s just Agg Pro
“It goes without saying the service and support is outstanding. Whatever we throw at you, it’s always ‘Yes’. That’s just Agg Pro.”
Talking about how the set up at Wordsworth has grown over the years, Oliver commented: “Due to the growth in the size and scale of our operation at Wordsworth, any three out of five days we’ll have somebody out from Agg Pro for support and general maintenance under the machine warranty.
“The fact that they’ve dedicated us our own service engineers means we can be so much more confident in our ability to give our clients the best service.
“To be honest, the way we work is as partners, we don’t see each other as suppliers or customers, the relationship is so much more than that.”
To date, Agg Pro and Wordsworth have worked together in the successful install of 28 GIPO and McCloskey machines.
Geoff Caves, Managing Director at Agg Pro had his say on the relationship with Wordsworth Crushing.
“Like Oliver says, we are both growing and our journeys seem to be taking similar trajectories.
It’s always a pleasure working with Oliver and the guys
“We are very grateful for the trust and loyalty Wordsworth have shown us over the years. It’s always a pleasure working with Oliver and the guys.
“We both know the importance of having machines that offer the very best in terms of productivity and reliability, and also the necessity to have support in place that can be as reactive and flexible as possible.”
