A quantity surveyor by trade, in 1996 Tom was offered a job selling crushers; well, that’s what he thought anyway.
First came six months of ‘on the job’ learning in the form of building Brown Lenox crushers. Since then, he has not looked back and it’s safe to say the surveying industries loss is certainly crushing and screenings gain.
“It’s easier to explain price once than apologise about quality forever”
With 25 years of experience in the industry at the likes of Powerscreen, Sandvik and now Agg Pro, Tom has built lasting relationships with many customers he now considers friends. So much so he will regularly share a drink or lose a golf ball with them.
Joining the Agg Pro team
Tom has known Geoff Caves for over 12 years and after talking of working together many times, in 2017 this came to fruition when he took the position of Sales Manager. For Tom it was ‘one of the best decisions I’ve ever made’.
Tom takes dedication in his role to the next level and once he sells a machine to a customer, he considers them ‘part of our family’. He won’t think twice about collecting a part in the evening for a customer who needs to get their crusher back up and running.
When he’s not working
Outside of work Tom is very much a family man and loves to visit Spain as often as possible with his wife, son, stepson and stepdaughter. High on the itinerary is often a round of golf followed by a bottle or two of wine.
If not in Spain, you will often find Tom visiting family back home in Northern Ireland where he enjoys walks along the stunning beaches of Portrush and Portstewart with his kids and dog.
Anything James Bond!
Tom very much enjoys and takes pride in his role, something he believes should be the case for everybody. Having worked for larger corporate companies in the past where there is often a detachment from the customer, Tom considers the ‘customer led’ mindset at Agg Pro as paramount to his happiness.
He also really values the togetherness and team working ethos at Agg Pro and among his customers, so much so he is often more excited to see a new crusher get through its first ton than his customers!
